Ledgy, the equity and share plan management platform trusted by thousands of companies worldwide, has appointed Darren Smith as an independent board member. With nearly a decade of leading advanced equity solutions and global compliance at Morgan Stanley and Solium (Shareworks) and with a deep expertise spanning tax, compliance, and global mobility, Darren brings exactly the combination of technical depth and people-first leadership that aligns with Ledgy's mission to make equity work for everyone.
Deep industry expertise meets hands-on leadership
Darren is a Partner and Global Equity & Reward Practice Lead at Vialto Partners. This, combined with his extensive tenure at Morgan Stanley, working in leadership roles in both North America and EMEA, positions him as a uniquely valuable addition to Ledgy's board.
At Morgan Stanley, Darren oversaw the Global Advanced Solutions team, including tax and mobility, global compliance, financial reporting, corporate actions, data automation, and API integrations - leading teams of 150+ people. His work touched every complex challenge that companies face when scaling equity programmes globally, from navigating cross-border compliance to building scalable systems that serve thousands of stakeholders.
"Darren doesn't just understand equity management from a technical perspective; he's lived the challenges our customers face every day," said Armon Bättig, Co-CEO of Ledgy. "His experience building solutions for some of the world's most complex equity programmes, combined with his reputation as a mentor and culture-builder, makes him an incredible fit as we continue to scale."
From tax law to equity innovation
Before his years at Morgan Stanley, Darren trained as a tax lawyer, holding a Juris Doctor from both the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Alberta, alongside a master's degree in finance and strategic management. But what truly drives him isn't just technical expertise; it's the challenge of solving complex problems and empowering teams to do their best work. That combination of rigorous legal training and genuine enthusiasm for tackling thorny operational challenges has made Darren a trusted mentor throughout his career.
A partnership built on shared values
“What stood out most about Darren wasn't just his track record; it was his genuine commitment to adding value wherever possible. His approach to equity mirrors Ledgy's own philosophy: that transparency, simplicity, and putting people first are what make equity truly work,” explains Yoko Spirig, Co-CEO of Ledgy.
"I'm excited to work with a team that's committed to making equity accessible and intuitive for companies at every stage," said Darren Smith. "Ledgy's focus on combining powerful technology with exceptional support resonates deeply with my own experience. The best solutions are the ones that empower people, not just processes."
As Ledgy continues to expand across Europe and beyond, Darren's expertise in scaling global equity solutions and his track record of mentorship will be invaluable in supporting the company's next phase of growth.
